G2 pull off double comeback against ENCE in New York

G2 have defeated ENCE in the opening round of Group A, pulling off comebacks on both maps from 9-14 and 10-14 deficits to win the series 2-0 (Dust2 19-17, Nuke 16-14).

Playing with Fabien "⁠kioShiMa⁠" Fiey in what was announced as his last stint as a stand-in, G2 took on ENCE in one of the two opening series of ESL One New York in Group A.

The Frenchmen opted for their usual Dust2 pick to start the best-of-three and went on to grab an early lead on the back of Kenny "⁠kennyS⁠" Schrub's quad-kill, but they were unable to hold on to their advantage as ENCE's defense proved dominant, giving the Finnish side an 8-3 scoreline. Late in the half, G2 recovered and managed to break their opponents to finish their T side with respectable seven rounds. They topped it off with another pistol round win, but ENCE once again went on a big streak, looking to close the map comfortably after gaining a 14-9 lead.

However, thanks to some great play from kioShiMa, who got two crucial triples over the course of the next few rounds, G2 turned it around again to take the first map to overtime. Once there, the French side completed the comeback with kennyS putting up some crucial openers and Audric "⁠JACKZ⁠" Jug stepping up with a couple of multikills, securing a 1-0 advantage in the series at 19-17.

Moving on to their own pick, Nuke, ENCE looked to respond as they racked up a 4-0 lead on the Terrorist side, but they soon found themselves trailing after G2 went on a run of six rounds in a row as they tightened up the defense. As the Frenchmen reached eight rounds, JACKZ saved two separate advantageous situations, although Jani "⁠Aerial⁠" Jussila still managed to sneak in a 1v3 as the Finns eventually mounted a solid offense worthy of seven rounds in total.

Upon switching sides, ENCE reached a 12-9 advantage thanks to some good aggressive play towards lobby and went on to grab two out of the next three rounds after trading low buy victories with their opponents, while Aerial hit the 30-kill mark. Much like on the first map, however, G2 never gave up and finished off the series after pulling off a second comeback, this time managing it in regulation with a six-round run.
